I'm working on an app that will let that happen. Work is progressing slowly, because (a) I don't know the first thing about geo stuff, and (b) geo stuff is often poorly documented. I hope to have it done by the end of the week.
I actually was thinking of the *exact* same thing, and then found this site--love the idea! ;-)
I think an awesome next step would be to import the route and stops of a certain bus route, have somebody ride the bus, and then begin to develop a system/model for how long it takes the bus to get from one stop to another, possibly aggregating the data over time to come up with a good estimate.
Imagine if others can then use the app to see when the next bus is coming as they wait, assuming somebody on it is running the app? It'd be pretty damn slick!
Re: next steps? and how can others get involved?
