London Networked Neighbourhoods Study Released

The London-based Networked Neighbourhoods has released a set of extremely important studies on "the social impact of citizen-run online neighbourhood networks and the implications for local authorities."

This connects to the heart of the use of open government by the public - you need online public spaces where citizens in the context of governance (particularly with elected officials who can say, these are MY voters talking) are asking for information and generating new public opinion. These online spaces be they "community sites" or a dozen of the different technologies and approaches, are essential for everyday citizens to discuss government and broader community affairs. These exchanges generate general demand for and often specific requests for government information.

Also, from a DIY perspective, it is though these spaces that we see critical mass local adhocracy or coproduction opportunities emerge. (This what we see increasingly here http://e-democracy.org/nf at the neighborhood level.)

Very very in-depth - report links and my take on their work:

    http://blog.e-democracy.org/posts/1078

Included in the blog post above are updates on the proposed "Meet Your Neighbors Online Week" and the Neighborly nearest neighbors social networking idea.

Travelsharing.netsons.org

Cityleft has worked together with Travelsharing.netsons.org to develop an open source website for car pooling.

Carpooling (also known as car-sharing, ride-sharing, lift-sharing and covoiturage), is the shared use of a car by the driver and one or more passengers, usually for commuting (Wikipedia).

However Travelsharing.netsons.org extended this approach to other forms of mobility such as biking, hiking, and so on.

The website is still at its beta version. Users should join to the community in order to translate contents in local languages.

To take part to this Travelsharing.netsons.org project visit:
www.Travelsharing.netsons.org

DIYtraffic for London?

I was contacted by someone from London asking if there were plans to set up an instance of DIYtraffic there. I replied we'd love to see it there, if someone can produce a reliable rss feed for live traffic data for the city.

Does anyone know of such a feed for London?

Or for all of UK?

First Issues in London for DIYcity to Focus On?

Hello DIY London!

I wanted to start a discussion about what would be the best topics for DIYcity to address in London initially.

What do you see as the most pressing issues facing the city right now?

Which of these issues could best be addressed with DIYcity approaches?

What would be the simplest and/or highest-impact action to take right off the bat?

Other thoughts/ideas? Please share.

There are no wrong answers here, just an open discussion to get things started.

DIY London
