How this site works

DIYcity operates along a few simple guidelines:

• a Challenge is periodically posted to the site, inviting people to build applications that address some particular civic problem or improve city life in some particular way.
• anyone who wants can submit an app in Response to these challenges. You do so by a) conceiving and building an app, and b) submitting it via the Response Submission form.
• submissions are featured on the site for everyone to see, discuss and use.
• everyone can comment on either a Challenge or a Response.

And that's it, mostly.

You can also start a group around a specific place or a specific topic if you want. Groups focused on places may host meetups where people can get together and trade ideas on ways to reinvent their surroundings.

If you live in or around New York City, you can join the New York City Group, which is planning a meetup in November.
