DIYcity Chicago get-together?

Hello -

So, it looks like we've got about 12 (ok, exactly 12) members registered for the Chicago chapter of DIYcity.

I think this sounds like a quorum.

Who's up for having an informal meeting soon? Will be a good opportunity to get to know one another, figure out what our aggregate skill set is, talk about directions for our chapter, and perhaps float some potential project ideas...

When / where works for people?

My vote would be some time next week, ~6pm, meet for drinks somewhere downtown.

Looking forward to working with everyone to help make Chicago a better place.

meetup

Dan, I think this is a great idea. Unfortunately I'm not always able to make it downtown on a weeknight. Maybe for future gatherings we could consider the northside and/or meet on a weekend. A virtual meetup using Skype or similar platform would also be great.

I'd like to see more projects involving heatmaps of city activity, and also exploring stuff like GNURadio (which gives the ability to transform radio signals into digital forms which can be mashed up with other data). I've long wanted some way to tell whether the corner bar in my neighborhood or some hot restaurant downtown was busy and I think I have one way of doing it that I'd like to share sometime.

Cheers,
Mark

more on meetups

By JoeGermuska

I hadn't seen DIY Chicago (and had thought DIY City was more specifically NYC focused) but now that I have, I am guessing that members of this group have a lot of common interest with members of the Open Government Chicago Meetup (http://www.meetup.com/openGovChicago/) From browsing members, I don't think we have too many overlapping members right now.

I'd love to figure out how the two groups can cooperate so that we multiply our collective energy. Feel free to join the Meetup or the Google Group mailing list (http://groups.google.com/group/OpenGovChicago/)

We've had two face-to-face events so far and will be planning more soon.
