Ok, so on 9th March, Transport Minister Stephen Joyce outlined New Zealand's infrastructure's current and future needs over the coming 20 years. Don't know about you, but I'm not prepared to wait for the creation of government-driven projects that try to solve questions that open technology can already answer.
How about approaching something simple for a starting point. Is there any way we can make sense of the jumbled mess of government websites - help communicate Wellington's services and culture in a joined-up way, so that people can actually get value from them?
I think it's a brilliant idea
By arinbasuHow about considering mashups using google maps and data from say sites like bethere.co.nz? That way, the prototype of Wellington can be used for other cities (eg chch, :) ) for instance.

Joining up a city's online tools - a model

We'd be able to put ALL resources on a map - use a mapping interface with high level groupings to access events, public services, government websites (situated in the geographic location of the actual office as you look at the map).
You'd even be able to link to the websites of physical infrastructure services, like the train station, Westpac stadium, ferry times etc... cool.
Should then get in touch with the government orgs responsible for the websites that the map links through to... make them aware of this great aggregator resource with a mapping interface that supports both visitors and inhabitants of Wellington.
